Post-Waxing Aftercare Guide

Keep Your Skin Beautiful, Smooth & Healthy

Immediate Care (First 24 to 48 Hours)

What TO DO

  • 💧

    Moisturize Gently

Apply a soothing gel like pure **Aloe Vera**, or a fragrance-free, alcohol-free moisturizer. This calms the skin, reduces redness, and restores the hydration barrier.

  • 👕

    Wear Loose Cotton Clothing

Choose natural, breathable fabrics. Loose clothing prevents friction on freshly waxed skin, preventing irritation and ingrown hairs.

  • 🧊

    Apply Cold Compresses

If you feel burning or notice redness, apply a clean towel soaked in cold water for **10-15 minutes**. This helps constrict pores and reduce inflammation.

What to AVOID

  • ☀️

    Direct Sun Exposure

The skin is extremely sensitive and vulnerable to burns and dark spots (hyperpigmentation). Avoid sun and tanning beds for at least **48 hours**.

  • 🛁

    Hot Baths & Heat

Excessive heat (saunas, hot tubs) and pool chlorine can aggravate irritation and cause infections. Avoid them.

  • 🏃

    Excessive Sweating

Postpone **intense exercise** for 24 hours. Sweat contains bacteria that can irritate open follicles (folliculitis).

📖 Common Reactions & Prevention

💡 Immediate & Normal Reactions

Hair removal from the root is a small trauma. The most common reactions include:

  • Redness (Erythema): Slight redness around the follicles is expected and usually disappears within a few hours.
  • Small Bumps (Perifollicular Edema): Slight swelling at the base of each follicle, temporary and a sign of the body's natural inflammatory response.

⚠️ Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation

Skin darkening (spots) can occur if the waxed area is exposed to the sun without adequate protection or is excessively irritated.

🧴 Prevention is Key: **Always use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher)** on the area after the first 48 hours, even on cloudy days.

🔬 What to AVOID (In Depth)

  • ☀️

    Direct Sun Exposure (In Depth)

UV radiation penetrates more easily on freshly waxed skin, which has its protective surface layer temporarily compromised. Risk of painful burns and persistent hyperpigmentation.

  • 🩹

    Surface Layer Loss (Skin Lifting)

Occurs when the wax removes a thin layer of the epidermis. **More common in skin sensitized by Retin-A, Accutane, acids (glycolic, salicylic) or peels.**

⚠️ **Warning:** Always inform your esthetician about any skin treatment or medication.

🔄 Ingrown Hairs & Folliculitis

Caused by friction, sweat, or clogged pores.

Prevention Tips:

  • Start gently **exfoliating** the area **2-3 times a week**, but **48-72 hours after** waxing.
  • Use a gentle chemical exfoliant or exfoliating glove.
  • Keep skin **always moisturized**.

⚠️ **NEVER scratch, pick, or squeeze the lesions!** This can cause scars, spots, and infections.

🏥 When to Seek Help

Contact us or see a dermatologist if you notice the following signs (may indicate infection or severe allergic reaction):

  • 🔴 Redness or swelling that **worsens after 48 hours**.
  • 💧 Presence of **pus, blisters, or crusts**.
  • 😰 Intense and continuous pain in the area.
  • 🤚 Extreme itching or hives that don't improve.
